I really enjoyed the historical and 'betina of a bygone era' vibe. I had a room with a open air tub. Room Number 1. It was fantastic, beautiful wooden and bamboo interior with tatami mats. It felt authentic and exciting to stay and immerse in. Sure its a bit worn - but I just think that adds to the character. The Husks pillow and futon were also authentic and I enjoyed the experience. If you want memoryfoam and modernity - a Disney style history and don't like the signs of aging this is not for you. But if you enjoy character, charm and a great cultural experience then go for it. Super amazing modern classical music playing toilet and Dyson hairdryer. I had a Bento dinner and the breakfast was sublime! the view out to the back garden was truly exquisite. Sure it is pricey - but it is a once in a lifetime experience and in a very tasteful part of Kyoto. I think the two extremes of reviews on this pace show who gets it...

We loved being greeted by a traditionally decorated entrance and common area, and the sound of crickets in the reception. The rooms were more spacious than we expected but still very cozy and of course clean. There was a nice pocket garden to view as well. The free ice cream and private onsen were a pleasant surprise and just what we needed after long days of walking and in the heat. But our favorite part was the amazing breakfast, tasty nutritious and filled us up for the long days of sightseeing, served in full view of the beautiful garden. To top off, the staff were very helpful and friendly! I would highly recommend this place to everyone who visits Kyoto!

It was incredibly nice and luxurious but at the same time had such a homey feel- very comfortable. The room was so lovely to relax in, and the bath of course was perfect. Tea in the room with wagashi was so nice upon arrival, and any amenity we needed had been accounted for. We opted to have dinner, and it was such a nice touch to be escorted from our room for our seating. Even though dinner was perfectly filling, we had to try some of the free coffee and soft serve in the common room (hot tip, have them together for a nice affogato) The staff were also all lovely and friendly!

Owner and staff are amazing! Great Ryokan experience. Food is great- both Western and Japanese breakfasts are elaborate and vary each day. Evening meals are expensive but extravagant- we had the Sukiyaki which had a large amount of thinly sliced beef and was delicious. Free ice cream machine for those hot afternoons. Lovely garden setting as you have dinner or breakfast. 5 min walk to Keage Subway station or to various bus stops to get you into the city or out to Ginkakuji or Kinkakuji.

Room was extremely spacious for 2 people, quiet area which made it easy to relax. Breakfasts were amazing, both the traditional Japanese and Western versions which changed every day. Shabu-shabu for dinner was definitely a highlight for me. Wish I had planned to try the other options during our stay Conveniently close to a train station for getting around, and multiple shrines within walking distance to enjoy
